(Español) El estudio se inició con dos objetivos: mejorar la comprensión de la trata de niños y de las respuestas de la región, y contribuir al discurso internacional sobre la trata de niños mediante el examen de los vínculos entre la lucha contra la trata y las respuestas de los sistemas de protección de la infancia. Aunque el estudio fue concebido con un enfoque principal en el tráfico, su alcance es mucho más amplio. Analiza cómo los principios generales de la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño se aplican en relación con los niños vulnerables a la trata y otras formas de explotación. La investigación también revela que muchos de los vacíos existentes pueden salvarse mediante la aplicación coherente y reforzado de la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño.
(Inglés) The study was initiated with twin aims: improving understanding of child trafficking and responses in the region; and contributing to the international discourse on child trafficking by examining the linkages between anti-trafficking responses and child protection systems. Although the study was conceived with a primary focus on trafficking, its scope is much broader. It analyses how the general principles of the Convention of the Rights of the Child are applied in relation to those children vulnerable to trafficking and other forms of exploitation. The research also finds that many existing gaps may be bridged by consistent and strengthened implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
